Biography of Anton García Abril

Born in Teruel

His symphonic work is very wide-ranging and spans most musical forms: opera, orchestral works, cantatas, concertos (violin, piano, guitar, cello, flute, two pianos, two guitars) and chamber music. Of note in this last category are his numerous song cycles inspired by the most prestigious Spanish poets.


From 1974 to 2003 he taught as Professor of Composition and Musical Forms at the Royal Higher Conservatory of Music of Madrid.

Professor of composition at the “Música en Compostela” summer school.


In March 1982 he was elected to be a member of the San Fernando Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Madrid, in May 1995 was named corresponding member of the San Luis Academy of Fine Arts of Zaragoza and in January 2003 was unanimously named Honorary Fellow of the same Academy. In 1997 he became corresponding member of the Nuestra Señora de las Angustias Academy of Fine Arts of Granada, in 2000 of the National Academy of Fine Arts of the Republic of Argentina and in 2001 corresponding member of the Santa Isabel de Hungría Royal Academy of Fine Arts of Seville.
